More Information from Santa Fe

Hey All,

Just a couple of quick notes:

Firstly, please note that on Friday from 5pm - 8pm the museums in downtown Santa Fe open their doors to the public. Santa Fe museums normally range from $10-$15 for admission each so we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to visit them free of charge.

Secondly, please be warned that Santa Fe is at the elevation of roughly 5,000 ft. In keeping, the altitude can have a dramatic effect on visitors, especially in regards to tolerance for alcohol. Please be advised that this will be amplified at Hyde Park Lodge, which is over 8,500 ft; make sure you drink more water than normal when drinking alcohol.

Best,
Sheila and Mike

4 Days Left!

Just a couple of updates:

We just found out that the cell phone reception at Hyde Park Lodge is very limited. That means if you miss the motor coach, you won't get able to get in contact with us at the venue. If you plan to take the motor coach, please plan to get there at least ten minutes early to avoid any problems.

So far, the weather has been perfect (warm during the day, a little cooler at night), and it looks like it will hold for the wedding weekend. Please note that the temperature at Hyde Park Lodge tends to be about 7 degrees cooler than that of downtown Santa Fe (it is about 3,800 feet higher in elevation).

See you all soon!

Warm Days, Cool Nights...

Hey All,

We are 6 days away from traveling to Santa Fe, and only 13 days from our wedding. We now have a pretty good idea of what type of weather to expect:

In Santa Fe itself, it should be between 75-83 degrees by day and 50-60 at night. The days will be dry and it looks like it won't rain.

At Hyde Park Lodge, we can expect it to be anywhere from 5-8 degrees cooler at all points. We expect it to be about 73 degrees on our wedding day, but down to 50 or so by night.

Please note that both locations are at high elevations. Santa Fe is about 5,000ft, while Hyde Park Lodge sits at 8,500ft. As such, please be mindful of how this might effect you as a traveler.

More Info Coming Soon,

Sheila and Michael

Wedding Attire

Hello all,

Wedding Venue and Details

Hello all,
We are very excited that two months from today we'll be getting married! The wedding will take place at Hyde Park Lodge, which is located in Hyde Memorial State Park, about 8 miles northeast of the Plaza. We will be providing transportation from the Plaza to the wedding venue and back, and we will post more information regarding that once everything is finalized closer to the wedding day itself. If you would prefer to drive (or if you just want to see where this place is), use this link (it's ugly but it works):

Interested in Carpooling from ABQ to Santa Fe?

Hey All,

I have had several people contact me asking if there might be others interested in sharing a rental car. If you are among those who are interested in doing so, please respond to this post and we can start making those type of arrangements.

Michael

La Fonda Extends Deadline

Hey All,

I asked La Fonda and they have extended the deadline for room reservations to July 1, but they have graciously agreed to wait until July 15. Also, they are adding five more rooms, meaning there are now 6 rooms left instead of 1. My advice? Get on it ASAP!

Best,
Michael

And even more on hotels...

Hey All,

Turns out there are more rooms held for us at La Fonda than we thought, so you still have a chance to get one there if you act soon. FYI, all rooms at La Fonda that we have not secured by the June 15 will be released, so get on it if you are interested in staying there! Regardless, there are still several options downtown that should continue to be available! Here are a few...

1) El Dorado Hotel - Very close to the level of La Fonda in both luxury and price, El Dorado is only a few blocks from the plaza. We don't have arrangements with them, but you can find better rates with them online than if you call.

http://www.eldoradohotel.com/

2) Garett's Desert Inn - Think of this as the Holiday Inn of downtown: lower price, good location, average quality. We do have arrangements with them: $119 for a King or two Double Beds, $109 for a Queen Bed. In truth, this is just a standard discount, but they don't go lower because of the location. In the end, as far as hotels, the price won't get much better and it makes a lot of sense in many ways. It's not likely you will be in the room most of the time. Just say you are attending the Bock Alarid Wedding when you call.

3) Inn on the Paseo - No arrangements, but very close and somewhere in the middle between Garret's and La Fonda on the price. The word is that the rooms are small, but the place is very clean and close to the plaza.

Greetings From Ground Zero!

Hey All,
Greetings from Santa Fe! After a few days in this lovely city, the wedding plans are coming together. Despite some trouble getting out here, we have had a wonderful time.

A few highlights:

Celebrating Mike's Birthday

Meeting Steve and Amber's adorable and happy baby son Pierce in Atlanta (We can't wait to see you guys again in September.)

Seeing BEAUTIFUL scenery on the drive from Salt Lake City to Santa Fe

Enjoying the baths and saunas at Ten Thousand Waves (http://www.tenthousandwaves.com/)

Cake tasting (It's going to be delicious!)

The food! (Seriously, Mike wasn't exaggerating -- Chili Rellenos, Carne Adovada, Mole Chicken Enchiladas, Green Chili Lasagna, Tres Leches Cake -- We'll post a more detailed food guide later.)

Shopping around the plaza for jewelry and gifts and walking through the art galleries

We can't wait for September, and we hope to see you all in Santa Fe!

More on hotel arrangements...

Hey All,

Just to let everyone know, we are happy to help you find someone to room with if you are coming solo. In fact, it looks like many people will be coming solo so there should be a number of you who might want to double up. Anyone interested in finding a person to share a room with should contact me or Sheila.

As with all things, suffice it to say that the sooner the better...

Now, does anyone have any questions for us? If so, please don't hesitate to ask here, and I will be happy to answer.

Best,
Michael

Limited Number of Rooms Available at La Fonda!

Hey All,

We have secured a limited number of rooms at the Hotel La Fonda (http://www.lafondasantafe.com/), which we can arrange for a discounted rate. La Fonda is not only one of the top hotels in Santa Fe, but it is also situated on the Plaza, just steps away from all wedding centered events.

La Fonda is interesting for other reasons as well: it is the site of the first hotel in Santa Fe, once called the Alarid House and owned by my direct line ancestor. Indeed, our family sold the property shortly after the conclusion of the U.S. Mexican War, but there are still exhibits inside of La Fonda celebrating it's history.

In addition, the hotel also houses a Cantina that will be the location of a meet and greet the night before the wedding. On top of that, it has become something of a "home base" for the bride and her family!

As of now, we have 10 rooms, which we will offer on a first come, first serve basis. The normal rate is between $199-$249 for a standard room, with suites usually being a little bit higher. We have secured the rate of $175 a night, which is not an amazing deal but is certainly the best price you will find for this hotel. If you are interested in securing one of these rooms, please contact either me or Sheila.

More on housing in our next post!

Best,
Michael

One of the best parts of New Mexico...

Hey All,

Take a look at the Green Chili Cheeseburger! A full food guide will be posted soon, but this gives you an idea of how New Mexicans utilize green chili, a mild but tasty topping that comes on just about everything in the city...
